To stay in Japan, you must obtain a status of residence.

Status of Residence is a qualification within the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act which allows foreigners to stay, and hold activities, or have positions for a certain amount of time.

Status of Residence include:

１、Diplomat, Official, Professor, Artist, Religious Activities
２、Investor/Business Manager, Lawyer, Public Accountant, Doctor, Researcher, Instructor
　　Engineer, Specialist in Humanities/International Services, Intra-company Transferee, Entertainer, Skilled Labor, Technical Intern Training
３、Cultural Activities, Short Term Resident
４、Student, Trainee, Dependent
５、Designated Activities

Permanent Resident, Spouse or Child of Japanese National, Spouse or Child of Permanent Resident, Long Term Resident

A Status or Residence is subject to resident term. Except for diplomacy and permanent resident, the term is set to within 5 years.

Activities are permitted only within the given status of residence, therefore activities and jobs from a different category must be permitted separately.

Work VISA contains permission to work, so there is no need to submit to any offices dealing with labour.

在日本居留需要获得居留资格。

居留资格是”入国管理法上的法律资格”。居留资格上标明居留资格的类型及相应的活动范围。

居留资格有以下几种类型:

１、外交　公务　教授　艺术　宗教　新闻报道
２、投资／经营　法律／会计业务　医疗　研究　教育
　　技术　人文知识／国际业务　企业内调动　娱乐　技能　技能进修
３、文化活动　短期逗留
４、留学　研修　家属陪同
５、特定活动

其他: 永居者　日本人的配偶等　永居者的配偶等　定居者

居留资格有一定的居留期间的限制，除了”外交””永居者”，其他的居留期间均在５年以内。

在居留资格上规定可活动范围，超过此活动范围的工作及活动需要另外申请。
